"Out of the Closet" ~ Women and Micro-Business

I’m a woman of strong faith. Those of you who’ve been hanging out with me for some time know that. While I don’t wear it on my sleeve as some do; I have no qualms about owning it when the timing is right to do so. I believe they will know us by our love and by our lifestyle. . .

But that’s not the theme of this post. I share that because what prompted the post began as a slight nudge in my gut when mentally preparing for a program I’m doing for our CARMEL (Indiana) COFFEE in the NEIGHBORHOOD next month. As I “rehearsed”, it occurred to me that maybe I wasn’t giving permission to all the gifts, wisdom, knowledge and experience that PAPA had built in me over the years. So I stopped mid rehearsal to pray. . .Key in Lock

“PAPA, why am I not using all you’ve given me? Why do I hold back?”  Silence followed. He was waiting for me to respond.

“PAPA, I don’t want to hold back anymore! Let’s let it all hang out. I’m willing to let you have control and bring out of the closet hiding what is gift from You!”

I share this personal life vignette because it has meaning and purpose for us all – but especially for us women in micro-business. We have so much more in us than we can possibly imagine; but when we get a glimpse of it? Well we tend to pull back and keep it in the closet – hidden from view. Not only from others – but from ourselves!

Women, there’s power in you! Power you know in your gut is there; but for many reasons, are unwilling to let it all hang out.

Why? Why do we hold back? What’s so fearful about being “powerful“?

I can tell you that for me it’s a bit of many things – a little concern about how “power” will manifest if allowed to hang out. Will it roll over others like a steam roller?

It’s an unwillingness to own what’s been given to me as Gift via many life experiences – the good, the bad and the ugly!

And finally it’s about how life will change if I do so. As if life has to change in order to be 100% the woman He’s called me to be!

When I look at the accomplishments of women throughout history, I realize that they overcame the odds to become their destiny. Amelia Earhart, Eleanor Roosevelt, Claire Booth Luce, Maya Angelou, and so many more.

Women who are not household names. Women who rose to life occasions to take their place in the history of their communities and significantly impacted them in positive ways.

Women who recognized the power they possessed and gave full voice – voices that impacted their world in magnificent ways.women in micro-business 2

So how is this part and parcel of women in micro-business? It’s everything my friends – everything.

Women in micro-businesses around the world are impacting world economies in significant and powerful ways. We are the largest growing segment in every region worldwide. Well, that is in regions where women are permitted (and encouraged) to become all they are destined to be. There are women holding public offices in many countries, including the top leadership role, i.e. Andrea Merkel, German Chancellor. She follows in the footsteps of Margaret Thatcher whose impact remains even after death!

Women who own or partner in a micro-business include solo-entrepreneurs who stretch to fulfill a deep yearning to be free of the corporate world. Who long to be their own ‘boss’ and bring products and services to a world waiting for what they bring. It’s risky – it’s bold. It’s powerful!

Without a willingness to come out of the closet, none of us will accomplish everything we desire. Without a willingness to step over fears, doubts, negativity of others and the myriad number of reasons we invent to hold back that which will fulfill us and empower our communities and the world at large – we’ll fall short of our destiny.

And the world will be a little bit less than it would have been had we let all we are ‘hang out‘!will-you-take-the-challenge

Women, in the days ahead, I challenge you to get down and dirty with all that resides within you. Get intimately involved with the wisdom, knowledge, abilities and skills hiding in the closets of your lives. Recognize that there’s ‘stuff’ in you that even you don’t see and ask to be enlightened.

If you’re a believer as I am – tell PAPA you’re ready to be the powerhouse you are. If you’re not yet of the same mindset – then take a step forward and give permission to yourself to at least explore that which is hidden within.

Let us come together as the voice of women in micro-business and form a community across the world. A community of women unafraid to truly become all we are meant to be.

A community of women whose power will light fires where only embers remain. A community of women whose power will heal broken hearts and mend the tattered lives of those who’ve lost hope. A community of women whose power will become the hope of a world waiting for what we bring – whether the gift of fulfillment of our hopes and dreams, or. . .

The fulfillment of the hopes and dreams of those whose lives we’ll touch!

Are you with me? I hope so!

Warmly,

Linda

I’m as out as you can get in my business, showing all that I am

Wow, good for you Linda. I’m not quite there yet; but working on it. Mostly, I’m holding back in terms of other life experiences unrelated to business. Just started an art class for my friend who is mild to moderate dementia. Found I enjoy it as much (or more) than he does. Also pleasantly shocked to learn I’m not too bad at it either!

Thanks for taking the time to response. Blessings,

      Linda
