I’m a late bloomer. That is in discovering the purpose for which I was born. But the old saying, “better late than never” is certainly apropos for me. And the same for any of you who are equally a “late bloomer”.
Let me set the stage for the next three (3) posts. Or perhaps I should say “prologue to presence”. From the beginning to now. What laid the groundwork for where life has taken me from dream to reality! But it’s not about me alone; it’s a journey that includes women worldwide. Women seeking to fulfill their own destiny. Women longing to become all they are meant to be. . .
SPRING 2006 ~ It was a beautiful late spring day and I sat on the porch enjoying a rare moment of leisure. The latest edition of “Networking Times” intrigued me with an article entitled “The Virtual Handshake”. A rare moment of leisure, an intriguing magazine and peace. Peace that came after exiting a high-stress project.
I’m not a woman to sit still long. I don’t choose rare moments of leisure; they find me. While the warm spring air was delightful; I was ready to learn the next stretch in life’s journey. After all, my ‘vintage years’ were of no consequence as age means nothing when one has a sound, curious mind and eagerness to do something constructive. To leave a legacy for others to follow!
“Okay Lord, what’s next?” I uttered out loud without really thinking about it.
That defining moment was May 8, 2006. Today, nearly 8 years later; the fullness of that message comes to pass. Not in all its fullness; but in the launch of the heart of the message which held more than what my feeble human mind perceived it to be.
Funny thing about our humanity. Our understanding of inspired messages and how they will take shape and form is dramatically different than that of the Divine! We humans think in small. PAPA thinks in HUGE. . .
Another funny thing about us humans is our inability to dream big enough and accept that we’re up to the task when the dream is much bigger than we imagined! But I digress. . .
2006 – mid-2007: The web was just exploding. Social media was on the horizon with a few brave souls like MySpace making space for folks to connect in real time without leaving the comfort of home or office. I knew little at that time – didn’t even have a laptop. But I did know I needed a web developer who could capture the vision and make it come to life un-pixelated on screens the size of early TVs.
The 1st venture ended badly; but the next web developer, recommended by a friend, turned out to be “heaven-sent”. He held back my eager enthusiasm to do it “all at once”, but got the concept and knew where we were to head. Today, Glenn (Antoine) is part of our NEIGHBORHOOD BOUTIQUES team and a dear personal friend as well. . .
July 1, 2007: We were on the WEB! A Women’s Place Network, Inc., the company formed to bring the dream to reality, was on the web. It was an exciting day. One in which I got up; wrote a first blog, waited for the traffic to arrive and went to bed despondent that our cyber-street was bare. Nary a soul stopped by our little wigwam on the web. I must say; not a great confidence-builder!
It was learning time and I love to learn new things. Give me a learning challenge and I’m on it like an alley cat, so the ensuing years have been learning a bit about web development, blogging, SEO (search engine optimization), content development, key words, Google and other things web! I’m far from expert; but I can talk tech with the big boys and girls – the “geeks” who know it forwards-backwards-inside and out!
This is certainly not the end of the story. In fact, it’s just the beginning. But time to turn my attention to other matters. I hope you’ll come back to read the next saga in our series on how the directive “online coaching” came to be a reality. How one women’s destiny came late in life when most women sit on the porch on a warm spring day letting leisure be their lot.
NOT this ‘vintage dame’!
