“Masks of Clay!" – A Tuesday Dose from Daily Doses!

As women of the Christian faith, I think it’s time we removed the masks we wear. The Masks We Wear 2 with textMyself included! We put them on every day and then wonder why some folks look at us as if we’re not “real”.

We put on the “holier-than-thou” one (I’m very good at this one. I may not say so, but I think it. . . ).

Or we don the “oh woe is me” one while telling the world what a wonderful life we have in Jesus (I can do this one too!).

Then there’s the “look what I do for the poor unfortunate folks of the world” (I can do this, but it’s a rare occurrence now).

And then there’s the one that really rattles my cage. The “I’ll never reveal myself to you or anyone”. The lack of transparency and authenticity mask.

The “I’m very secure in who I am” mask that hides a parcel full of lack of self confidence. I hate that one. And the uncanny truth is; that anyone with a wee bit of discernment can pick out this masked one a mile away. Because when we have to rigidly hold onto a mask we’ve chosen to hide behind – it’s a dead giveaway that what we hope to hide shines right through!

As we approach that most pagan of holidays, Halloween, I think more about the masks we wear – the ones I wear as well. I think about how fantastic it would be if we could (or would) move in the direction of our Lord and never put on a false face to the world.

That we would reach a place in life where we are so comfortable with Him and in our relationship with Him that we don’t have to pretend with others because we don’t have to pretend with Him. It’s nonsense to think we can anyway. He knows it all before we ever venture to take off our mask in His presence.

So today, ask yourself what mask(s) you don every day.

What are you seeking to hide from others?

What do you fear them knowing about you that might diminish you in their eyes?

And the best question of all – how much more peaceful, comfortable and stress-less would life be if I put the masks I wear out with the trash and never sought to retrieve them?

Hum, question worth our reflection.

Don’t you think?

Warmly,

Linda
