It’s Friday…and it’s the 13th of the month! Thankfully, I don’t have one superstitious bone in my body…so I declare this Friday the 13th to be one that will be overwhelmingly successful for you…in every way!
With that said, I’m moving forward with my series on “TIME”…that elusive commodity that most of us wish we had more of! And that’s the point of today’s post. Just how to dredge not just more hours out of our day…as I’ve said before, we all have the same 24 hours in each day. But rather what steps can be taken to make the MOST of those hours!
It’s really about the issue of productivity…how we USE the time we’ve been allotted. So hang on tight…and take to heart what I’ve compiled here. If you implement even some of what’s shared, you’ll find that you will have “more hours in your day”!
You’ve heard the term, “work smarter, not harder”…Matthew Toren (serial entrepreneur and co-founder of YoungEntrepreneur.com has found a way to do just that. He says that if you want to be more productive and see results in your business, it’s vital that you do discipline yourself to be more structured. In other words, “plan your work and work your plan”. The best way to do this is to set aside a specific time – usually at the beginning or end of your work day to map out each day’s work.
The next thing to realize is that the idea of multi-tasking is may work for some folks, but for the most part, if you want to be ultra- productive, FOCUS on one task at a time – and yes, you WILL need to allow for some interruptions and/or distractions – that’s a given. Bottom line, our brains are wired this way, so try it. As women in business, we do NOT have to perform like Wonder Woman!
You must also stop functioning in what I call the “tyranny of the urgent”! Everything that comes across your desk or your computer is an urgent matter – even if it seems as such. There’s a huge difference between “urgent” and “important”. Recognizing the difference requires wisdom and discernment. It will save you a world of hurt and much less stress!
Another key to creating a more productive day is to purposefully plan breaks – that’s right, walk away from the computer, go offline, set aside your Smartphone and all other electronic devices… go for a walk, get a snack…it will give both your body and brain a much-needed break away…put it on your calendar…set an alarm on your phone if need be…just do it!
Another excellent key to effective time management is to delegate. What a concept… you really don’t have to do it ALL! The most productive business owner/entrepreneur has found out what they are truly worth…and as a result, learn to “share the wealth” with others who can take of tasks that can be passed on.
And lastly…for this particular post, at least…utilize a wonderful business management tool…ASANA! It’s a web-based and mobile app designed to increase productivity for you, your team and your company. It helps you communicate without email as well as organize/prioritize your day…try it…promise you’ll like it.
That’s all for this Friday…and make time for what’s most important!
