It's About Time…and It's Priceless!!!

I’m continually amazed at how quickly these Fridays roll around!  Why, it seems just like yesterday that I was writing last week’s “Friday the 13th” edition on NEIGHBORHOOD BOUTIQUES.  Now here I am once more, bringing yet another post on the topic of TIME.Time is free

As I begin to bring this series to a close, it occurred to me just how many aspects there are of this “thing” we call TIME.  We can “spend” time…we “make” time…we can even “waste” time!

I really like a quote about TIME from Harvey MacKay that says, “Time is free, but it’s priceless.  You can’t own it, but you can use it.  You can’t keep it, but you can spend it.  Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back.”  Now think about that for a minute…why not just take your time, allowing that statement to marinate for a while…until it sinks in a bit.

I really hadn’t planned on making this post about Harvey (and, in all actuality, it’s not), but what he had to say is quite prolific, in my humble opinion…and I thought you might want to know just a little about this man…and what he thinks about the topic of my blog series!

If you don’t happen to be familiar with Harvey MacKay let me enlighten you.  Not only is he a best-selling author of many books, two of which – Swim with the Sharks without Being Eaten Alive and…ready for this title???…Beware the Naked Man Who Offers You His Shirt – are among the top 15 inspirational business books of ALL time, according to the New York Times!

He also happens to be one of America’s most popular and entertaining business speakers.  In fact, Toastmasters International named him one of the top 5 speakers in the world.

WOW…that’s a lot to live up to, huh?  How do you suppose Mr. MacKay climbed to the top of his field?  As I perused his website, read his biography…after having read at least one his books (and even a second one, as I recall)…it became clear that this is a man who has INVESTED his time well…not only his God-given talent for the written word but the spoken one as well…to uplift and inspire others.

Here’s a quote taken from his biography that says it well… “Central to Harvey’s business, and to his books, is the ability to stay competitive in the often cut-throat world of business, to ‘swim with the sharks’, without sacrificing one’s personal integrity or doing it at the expense of other people. He does this by focusing on building strong relationships with both customers and employees.”

Oh, to aspire to, and fulfill, that calling!  But what does Harvey’s life have to do with the topic of TIME, you might be asking.    After reading further in his online bio, I began to see why I was drawn to this quote…and then to learn more about the man, not only of his integrity, but one who has his priorities in order.Time...matters

His biography goes on to say, “In spite of his hectic schedule, Harvey still finds plenty of time for family and fun. He’s an avid golfer (11.4 handicap) and recently won the Super Senior Men’s Championship at his home club in Scottsdale!   He and his wife, Carol Ann, have been married over 45 years, and enjoy spending time with their nine grandchildren. They are avid travelers, taking an annual trip to Italy, and planning upcoming tours of China and Africa.”

I trust this little “peek” into the life of Harvey MacKay inspires you to take stock in where you’re investing the time that’s been given to you…and making time for the truly important things of life…what a GIFT!

Love this Jana…It seems like such a simple concept, yet it is so very hard to be intentional about how we spend our time.
