Tomorrow “We the People” will be celebrating our 239th Independence Day! Think of it, when our Founding Fathers came together, in one accord, to draft the Declaration of Independence from religious persecution and the tyranny of Great Britain, they were paving the way for those who came after…you and me… citizens of this great country…that we might truly enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!
How will you be celebrating this very special day in the life our United States of America? Will you congregate with friends and family – perhaps having a backyard barbeque with all the trimmings – hamburgers, hot dogs, and a great big juicy watermelon!
May I suggest while you’re gathering together that you take some time out of the busyness of the day to reflect back on what those courageous men did for our nation. We would not be able to enjoy the freedoms we have were it not for their bravery and foresight.
I personally believe that they were divinely inspired and driven by their Creator to do so!
As they stated in the Preamble to our Constitution, their goal was to “form a more perfect Union” than they had known before, to establish Justice and to insure domestic Tranquility, to provide for the common defense, to promote general Welfare and secure the Blessings of Liberty and Posterity.
Have those goals been reached…I would have to say a huge resounding YES!!!
Are we a perfect Union…of course not…but we are a FREE country and a nation filled with citizens who desire that for ourselves and the rest of the world.
America has a destiny! Have we endured much adversity? No doubt about it! Are we currently experiencing even more “growing pains”? Absolutely! Will we persevere? I’m convinced of it more today than ever!
The definition of independence is “freedom or control from the influence of others.” Who doesn’t want to be independent? I am so very thankful to have been born in the United States of America! My parents raised me to be patriotic…and I have passed on that love of God and country to my children and grandchildren.
While we celebrate our INdependence tomorrow, let me suggest that we embrace our INTERdependence as well. Why do make that statement? Because we NEED each other!
Dictionary.com defines interdependence as “the quality or condition of being interdependent or mutually reliant on each other.” As the definition implies, people in interdependent relationships tend to have equality and balance in how each individual’s needs are met.
I can only speak for myself, but I thrive on being a blessing in the lives of others and also realize that I often need the support others…that to me is a healthy interdependency.
What better day than the Fourth of July…our country’s Independence Day…to reach out and make a difference in the life of another American neighbor?
That’s on our family’s agenda…sharing our blessings with others. We still have freedoms that no country on earth enjoys…and my family and I will be flying our American flag high tomorrow, like we do every day of the year…with pride!
