You may be thinking…”Jana, you’re always such an upbeat, positive person…why focus on something we perceive as a huge negative in life?” And I would answer…”That’s precisely WHY it’s key to gaining the kind of confidence that’s B.O.L.D.”….so hang in there with me!
Now l must let you in on a little secret…well, not such a “secret” but something certainly not something I’m spreading all over social media…only to a few…and now perhaps you’ll understand how the subject of PAIN is on my radar this week.
My story actually goes back a couple of years when I was diagnosed with severe degenerative bone disease of the right hip…something treatable, but nevertheless, quite painful. Problem is, I allowed it to go untreated for too long and ended with needing a total hip replacement in April of 2013. I made a “note to self” to not let that happen again! I did well with the surgery and had no other issues until April of this year when I had two incidents “back-to-back” affecting my right knee. After not being able to weight-bear and in severe discomfort, I headed directly to the E.R. where x-rays revealed no cartilage on the right side of my right knee. Again, a very treatable, non-life-threatening scenario, but one that needed to be dealt with nonetheless. And I remembered the promise I’d made to myself two years prior.
With that said, I received a cortisone injection in early June, followed by my orthopedic surgeon’s suggestion to consider a total knee replacement as the effects of the shot would begin to wear off in less than three months. I had a decision to make…gimp around on my “bum” knee or deal with it and move on with life. As you may be surmising, I chose the latter option and, in fact, had surgery in August, followed by nearly three weeks in a wonderful transitional facility where I received post-op therapy, thereby expediting the healing and recovery process.
Now, here’s the question… Am I in PAIN right now? You bet!!! Are they giving me some pretty strong meds to bring some relief…thank God!!! Has the rehabilitation therapy been painful? Indeed,it has! The BIGGER question is this! What would have happened if I chose to “let it go” and not deal with the root of the PAIN? Hmmmm…. as long as we’re alive we will deal with some sort of PAIN…whether it be a physical issue, emotional trauma from our past or even something related to our career/profession. The key is how we handle it, long-term!
Becoming a Woman of B.O.L.D. Confidence involves:
- Identifying the root cause of your pain…whether physical, emotional or business-related!
- Dealing with that root cause until a resolution takes place…but doing it swiftly yet completely!
- Pressing through…and on…to a healthier and happier personal and professional life!
So much more could be said about the woman in micro-business who wants to have the kind of confidence I’ve been proposing in this series…and we’ve only just begun. So stay tuned for more B.O.L.D. tips!
