Becoming a Woman of B.O.L.D. Confidence…Just Believe!

Yesterday was an amazing day!  It was the monthly gathering of our Carmel COFFEE in the NEIGHBORHOOD where women come together to build strong, bonded relationships while growing both personally and professionally. Woman believing...

We begin the meeting in small groups around questions that are meant to create an atmosphere for that kind of relationship-building…and we get down to business at the same time!

The discussion is followed by a featured speaker who shares on topics relevant to women in micro-business…and yesterday I had the privilege of being this month’s guest!

Since I’ve been writing this series on B.O.L.D. Confidence, it seemed appropriate to share what I’ve been learning and bringing each Friday to you via the blog post.

I began by talking about the importance of identifying three basic BELIEF levels we must have as micro-business owners.  Those are:

  • Belief in your company
  • Belief in your product or service
  • Belief in yourself.

We have a good number of the women attending these gatherings who are in direct selling or sales/marketing so they immediately embraced this concept.  After twenty plus years in direct marketing myself, I’ve had the opportunity to teach and train on this key principle of business.

Just believeWhether you are employed by a company, own your own product or service-oriented micro-business or are connected with an affiliate company, it’s vital that you believe that the company has integrity and ethics.  And then the next key step is to truly believe that what you are promoting is exceptional.

The thing that trips many women up, especially those starting out in business, is the third one…belief in yourself…that you are capable and qualified to do the job…and be a huge success.

That’s where building B.O.L.D.  Confidence comes in.  As a reminder…the definition of “confidence”…”Something you create within yourself by believing in who you are.”

So I asked this question to the group of women … “Why do we lack confidence?  I actually had three reasons written down in my notes that I had planned to share..and interestingly enough, all three of them were mentioned when I got answers to my question!

One of the obvious reasons some lack confidence when stepping out in a new business or perhaps it’s a new level you are taking with your existing business.   And that’s lack of knowledge or experience.  Knowledge truly IS power!   So get good training in your field of endeavor…or product knowledge and experience…that will definitely be a big confidence booster.

The next reason another woman mentioned was lack of self-esteem or self-worth.  The feeling of unworthiness to experience success.   I have found in my experience of team development, that many women have challenges in this area…and that they are far more concerned about fearing success than failing…think about that for a moment.Don't Compare

The third reason for lack of confidence involves the comparison trap.  As much as we hate to admit it,  we tend to constantly compare ourselves to other women.   You know the drill…”She’s prettier, smarter, thinner”…yada, yada, yada!   Nothing will steal someone’s confidence more than the feeling of being “less than”.   This is a tough one and must be something dealt with in order to have a healthy outlook, both personally and professionally.

I then shared the acronym for B.O.L.D.“Binding Old Lies Daily” and proceeded to explain what that meant in relation to confidence building.

I left them with four key ways to create B.O.L.D. Confidence:

  • Transform Your Thought Life… Who you THINK you are, you become…plain and simple! Realize that you have a strong identity…you were created for a purpose and you are preparing yourself to fulfill that destiny.
  • Nix the Negative Self-Talk… Stop putting yourself down and speak positively about your future.
  • Tell Yourself the Truth… Ask yourself, “What IS my truth?” Remember the old adage,To thine own self, be true”.
  • Surround yourself with positive, uplifting, like-minded women… the kind of other micro-business women who understand your challenges and are ready and available to stand with you and support you in your business-building efforts!

And as I closed with them yesterday, so I close this post today….

“Now, GO out….and be BOLD”!!!!
